Serving in Peru
|
|
Henrik and Patty Christopherson have served with the World Mission Prayer League since 1984, for the most part in northern Peru. They also served one term as Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinators, in the Seattle area (1995-1999).
Henrik and Patty are currently involved in church planting and leadership training among three Lutheran congregations on the northern coast of Peru. They write: “It is our joy to see an emerging Lutheran church, and to be involved in working alongside capable national leadership in youth work and congregational formation.”
Henrik meets weekly with several men who are future leaders, using 2 Timothy 2:2 as a guiding verse. Patty home-schools Rebekah, now in 9th grade, and is active in discipling women in the three congregations. She has also given her interest and design ability towards Achkiy Crafts, a Peruviain group of artisans who produce jewelry, greeting cards, and notebooks. Rebekah sees herself as a missionary as well! She is actively involved in adolescent ministry, part of a music team called Metanoia, and in Confirmation. Inga and Rachel live and study/work in the US.

Serving in Eritrea
|
|
Berhane and Caroline Elias, with Ruth, Peter and Anna, have served with the World Mission Prayer League in Eritrea since 1996.
Eritrea is a small country in the Horn of Africa, directly north of Ethiopia and on the Red Sea. There are nine tribes in Eritrea, several of which are unreached with the Gospel. The region has a long history of war, drought and famine. A thirty year struggle for independence from Ethiopia ended in 1991, making Eritrea Africa’s newest nation. A second armed conflict with Ethiopia began in 1998 and lasted two years. Tension over the demarcation of the border continues – and greatly affects everyday life.
The Eliases are involved primarily with leadership development and youth work. Berhane serves as Sunday School Coordinator for the three congregations in Asmara and coordinates efforts in village congregations as well; more than 600 children participate in the program. He also teaches at the recently re-opened seminary, where Caroline teaches English, computer skills and recorder.
Berhane and Caroline’s hope and prayer is to encourage the Lutheran Church in Eritrea to find its part in God’s plan for sharing the Good News with all peoples. At the same time, they are thankful for the opportunity to serve as a connecting point for partnerships through prayer and other means with congregations outside Eritrea.

Serving in the Philippines

Mark and Kathi Williams, with Andrew and Joel, have served with the World Mission Prayer League since 1990, primarily in the Philippines. They also served as Youth Ministries Coordinators while Mark did graduate study in the US (2000-2002).
Currently, Mark serves as Academic Dean and Missions Director at Asian Theological Seminary, where he also occasionally teaches some courses. He leads an itinerant Bible school in another part of the island for friends who have recently come to faith and is working on his PhD at a local university.
Kathi holds down the home front and is actively involved at both of the boys’ schools. She chairs a local missions committee, teaches English to new believers from time to time, and looks for ways to encourage local teammates. In her “spare time” she enjoys woodworking.
Drew is a sophomore at Concordia University, Irvine. Joel is in the 10th grade. Both enjoy sports, friends, music, and computer games.
