Worship

What is worship? Most people think of worship as a time to praise God. In truth, that is a large part of worship. However, worship is also a time to hear God speak His word of promise to us. This might suprise you to think that Almighty God, the maker of heaven and earth, would speak to us. But this is exactly what Jesus promised, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20). "My sheep hear me voice," Jesus said, "and I know them and they follow me" (John 10:27). You see, gathering together for worship isn't just getting together to hear some nice words about Jesus. It is gathering together with our neighbors to hear what Christ himself has to say to us, to hear his word and to receive his sacraments. It is when we trust these promises of God that true worship occurs.
