Update from Building Committee - July 21, 2009
Construction continues on the new structure. We have completed the following items of the new church: lath is installed, the City Inspector passed the lath installation and curb and driveway, the metal framing for the windows is installed, the post inspection asphalting for the corner and driveways are completed, stucco application on the walls has begun. There have been no accidents to date at the construction site.
Construction committee met and is working on color selections; these include tile color of the tile. The City of Westminster will need to be contacted to ensure the color was not already called out, and if so, by what method does this need to be changed. Stain for the concrete was chosen over the carpet for the short term. The color was not selected for anything as of yet.
Update from Building Committee - February 22, 2009
LAST WEEK - We have reached a point in the construction where we are less susceptible to weather. Aside from a lost day on Monday, when the rains came a la Noah, the framing has proceeded apace. The southwest sanctuary wall is framed, shear paneling installed and electrical conduits run. The northeast sanctuary wall and the exterior walls near the bathrooms are following closely behind. We also poured concrete around the perimeter of the building, filling in stem walls and around the HVAC system. We are preparing for the roof construction, bolting wood onto the overhead metal beams.
NEXT WEEK - We will continue framing next week. We will also start on the roof proper. As the roof proceeds, we will finish out the sanctuary framing by building the back wall. Finally, as the roof is completed, we can remove the braces that assure that the concrete walls do not collapse.

Update from Building Committee - February 15, 2009
LAST WEEK - After rain-caused delays, we erected three large beams that bridge the sanctuary on their columns. We have started framing the high walls.
NEXT WEEK - We will continue framing next week, with electrical and HVAC contractors joining in the work. We have reached a point in the construction where we will be less susceptible to weather. Unlike the concrete contractor, the framing contractor need not wait until the site has dried before working.

Update from Building Committee - February 8, 2009
LAST WEEK - The concrete walls are up! We employed a 300 ton crane that hoisted the walls up on Tuesday. (You may be interested to know that the largest form weighed nearly 50 tons.) After they were in place, we welded them in place. We took delivery of lumber in preparation for the following week’s activities.
NEXT WEEK - We will start; weather permitting, to build the rest of the walls this week. We plan to erect three large beams that bridge the sanctuary on their columns on Monday. We will start framing after that. The weather forecast calls for some rain, so we’ll have to play it day to day.

Update from Building Committee - February 2, 2009
LAST WEEK - We poured the rest of the concrete into the forms on Tuesday. We spent the remainder of the week cleaning up forms and preparing for the next stage of construction. We needed to wait for the flooring to cure before tipping the walls up, because we will employ a heavy crane that will operate on the sanctuary floor and don’t want to damage the floor.
NEXT WEEK - This is a big week! We will tip up the concrete walls on Tuesday. After that, expect a lot of progress as the rest of the walls start to go up and more visible construction activities take place.

Update from Building Committee - January 23, 2009
LAST WEEK -We ran into a minor problem last week that delayed pouring all the tip-up panels, although we did pour some panels. We corrected the problem and are now ready to complete the pouring early next week.
THIS WEEK -We plan to pour the rest of the concrete into the forms early next week, weather permitting. We will spend the remainder of the week cleaning up forms. After the walls cure, we will tip them up into place the following week. We need to wait for the flooring to cure before tipping the walls up, because we will employ a crane that will operate on the sanctuary floor and don’t want to damage the floor.

Update from Building Committee - November 23, 2008
LAST WEEK - We poured 15 loads of concrete for the footings and the grade beams on Monday. (Grade beams are concrete beams underlaying the slab that reinforce the building against earthquake damage.) Work continued on the rebar and forms for the serpentine walls. We also began trenching for the heating/air conditioning ducts.
NEXT WEEK - The city is scheduled to inspect the preparation for the serpentine walls. If we get approval, we will pour concrete for the walls on Tuesday. We will continue work preparing to lay subflooring ducts for the HVAC system and conduit for power, organ, and audiovisual systems. Since this is Thanksgiving week, we will work for only three days.

Update from the Building Committee - November 16, 2008
LAST WEEK - We continued to work on the foundation, setting rebar and pouring concrete at the base off the serpentine walls that form the front of the building.
NEXT WEEK - We are scheduled to pour 15 loads of concrete for the footings and the grade beams on Monday morning, following city inspection. (Grade beams are concrete beams under laying the slab that reinforce the building against earthquake damage.) This is a significant event and interesting to watch, if you have time. The next step is site preparation prior to pouring the flooring. This includes laying down ducts for the HVAC system and conduit for power, organ, and audiovisual systems.
Update from the building Committee - October 26, 2008
LAST WEEK - The contractors (electrical, mechanical, concrete, plumbing, and HVAC) involved with the building flooring met Monday in a coordination meeting. The site was laid out on Wednesday and trenching for plumbing, electrical, and footings is underway. All excavation is now done.
NEXT WEEK - Efforts next week are targeted to complete all the work so that we can pour concrete by the end of the week. Contractors will trench for water, sewer, fire, utility, HVAC, and some organ conduits. The soils engineer will test the ground, the mechanical contractor will place rebar and the city will inspect the site. If all goes well, we will pour concrete by the end of the week.
Update from the building committee - October 12, 2008
LAST WEEK - Lambard is still preparing the ground on which the foundation will be poured. The high water table requires that we lay down an 18” layer of gravel eight feet below grade before covering it with dirt to be compacted. The layer extends five feet beyond the foundation. The compacting has to be done in stages, putting down a layer of soil, compacting it, and then watering it down before repeating the process. We are about 2/3 of the way done. We also finalized the audiovisual and organ subsystems design, necessary so that we can run conduit before pouring cement flooring. NEXT WEEK - By mid-week, the ground will be prepared and several subcontractors will start their work. First the concrete guy will begin his task, accompanied by the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical contractors, each of whom needs to prepare the site prior to pouring the foundation. Exciting times!
